Information about the BSc Project laboratory and Thesis work subjects

Please note that this is a summary. Concerning the details, the regulations at the faculty are the authentic sources of information. The figure shows the workflow.

It is recommended that the student works on the same topic within the framework of the Project Laboratory and the Thesis Work subjects. The topic is chosen by the student at the beginning of the Project Laboratory (6th) semester. Students must contact the supervisor at the beginning of the Thesis Work (7th) semester (during the registration week, at the latest) to confirm that he or she will continue the topic. Our department (IIT) offers the following BSc Project Laboratory subjects

  1. BMEVIIIAL05 - electrical engineering degree program (BSc), embedded and control systems specialisation
  2. BMEVIIIAL04 – computer engineering degree program (BSc), software engineering specialisation

Topic announcements

The topic descriptions can be browsed on the IIT website (no login required). The topics can be filtered by training level and specialisation. The so-called external topics are proposed by industrial partners and research institutions. Topics are updated by the lecturers at the beginning of the semester (usually during the registration week).

External project laboratory and thesis topics

In the case of external topics, the professional supervision of the topic is provided by the industrial partner or research institute that announced the topic. However, a departmental supervisor checks the professional content of the topic (including its fit with the specialisation) and the adequacy of the quality and quantity of the work performed. The obligation to make a presentation and submit a written report also applies to external topics.

At our faculty, it is not possible to classify a BSc thesis.

Topic selection and application

The student contacts the departmental supervisor (typically by email) of the topic (or topics) of interest. Following the email or personal communications, the student can use the IIT website (login required) to register for the selected topic where the supervisor agrees to receive him/her. In the case of an external topic, the industrial partner or research institution must confirm the admission of the student. As a result, the supervisor approves the application.

The deadline for choosing a topic is the end of the first week of classes.

Meetings and status reporting during the semester

The student and his/her supervisor regularly review the progress of the work during the semester. In the case of an external topic, the student regularly informs the departmental supervisor about the work done. If the student fails to report regularly, the supervisor may give the subject a „failed” qualification.

Presentation and written report

A presentation session takes place at the end of the Semester (usually at the beginning of the retake week) for the Project Laboratory subject. The schedule session will be published on the department's website. The slides of the presentation and the written report must be uploaded on the course page by the end of the last week of classes of the semester, otherwise the student will not receive credit for the subject.

In the case of the Thesis work subject, the written report (Thesis report) must be uploaded to the Thesis Portal according to the deadlines indicated there. The presentation of the thesis work is part of the final exam.
